Westminster Will Debut 6 New Breeds

by Mary Haight on January 27, 2012

There will be 6 new dog breeds recognized at the 136th Westminister Dog Show, and the Westminister Kennel Club had them strutting the streets of New York (see video below) and sharing their histories with an eager press.  Who doesn’t love to cover a dog show?  The new breeds are: the Cesky Terrier, American English Coonhound, Xoloitzcuintli, Norwegian Lundehund (here’s a 2009 post I wrote on this breed that almost went extinct, the six-toed dog is back), Finnish Lapphund, and the Entlebucher Mountain Dog.  Mark your calendars for February 13-14 at Madison Square Garden.

Glad to see a Xoloitzcuintli finally included. I once met a Entlebucher Mountain Dog at our dog park. I kept asking them the name because I couldn't remember it because I had never heard of it. Kind of cool to see one included in Westminster.
