Save Pets – BlogPaws Pet Blogger’s Conference News!

by Mary Haight on July 23, 2011

save petsSave pets – it’s one of the common themes running through BlogPaws’ website and the pet blogger’s conference by the same name.  Based on the belief that when you know more you can do more, BlogPaws Pet Blogger’s Conference is not only for pet bloggers! There are Vet tracks, social media tracks, writer’s and blogger’s tracks, fundraising tracks, and, new this year, a shelter track! That’s a lot of continuing education packed into a couple of days!

Volunteers who want to save pets should be interested to know that Mike Arms of the Helen Woodward Animal Center will be presenting an Animal Center Education Seminar (ACES) on Thursday before the official networking events kicks off the conference that evening.  Space is limited – rescues and shelters wordwide vie for a place at these events. Contact Caroline at BlogPaws.com to save your seat and help save pets;)

Pet industry representatives also attend, interested in teaming with bloggers, vets, shelters, and fundraiser’s, and often with a save pets idea or theme. Attendees get an up close and personal look at products that interest pet owners.  Networking with other like-minded people often creates new opportunities – and that brings me to the story of how BlogPaws got started.

Yvonne DiVita, her husband Tom Collins, and Caroline Golan met at a BlogHer Conference. They “knew” each other through blogging but had never met.  After one of the sessions at BlogHer, explaining how they put bloggers together with possible sponsoring products, it was Caroline who asked “why can’t we do his for pet bloggers?” And so they did, making certain a big part of this effort was going to save pets.

Caroline’s own mission to help save pets and her proven fundraising prowess on Romeo the Cat , coupled with Yvonne’s social media and marketing savvy through her Lipsticking blog (named by Forbes as one of the top 20 best marketing and social media blogs by women), and Tom’s legal background were a good fit in developing BlogPaws.  It’s a wonderful story and well told by Yvonne and Caroline, who graciously “pawsed” long enough to join the Animal Cafe team for an update podcast on what’s news at the upcoming BlogPaws conference. You can join us at BlogPaws in Vienna, VA August 25-27 and sign up on the BlogPaws Registration page. From there you can also see the agenda and events and how many ways you can learn to save pets, be a better writer, fundraiser, social media maven!

Edie Jarolim, Lorie Huston, Eric Goebelbecker and I had a great time interviewing Yvonne and Caroline – we even got a taste of a special announcement! Have a listen:

Sounds like a great opportunity for anyone interested in making a difference for pets, something for everyone here. Thanks for sharing the good word Mary, wish I was attending. Very cool that pets are also encouraged to be in attendance.

Fantabulous, Mary! We so appreciate the kind words and the opportunity to talk with Animal Cafe. You (and the rest of your talented group) are just ONE reason we are eagerly looking forward to this year's event. The other reason(s) are... education - it's amazing how much WE learn at each event; networking - meeting LOTS of new pet bloggers and pet devotees; and mingling with brands. The brands have really stepped up - BlogPaws is so blessed to have a combination of great pet bloggers, pet people who don't necessarily blog, speakers, and brands... all focused on the community of pets who, btw, will be in attendance! We encourage lots of pets to attend...with their human!
