Hi Greta, I know what you mean, home cooking for your dog is tough and requires a good deal of knowledge, expert help, and dedication. But when you have a dog that doesn't tolerate kibble, like mine, it seems like the best alternative and becomes what you do. There are some really good convenience foods out there now and if your dog is not intolerent of changes you can used canned organic or the fresh meals to your door concept and it's not a bad way to go or too expensive if it's not the main feed. Thanks for adding to the discussion!

I agree that home cooked meals are the best (because you are able to controll more the quality of the food) but you need to have a good knowledge about nutrition because your have to find the right balance between proteins, carbs, vitamines, minerals, etc. I really try to cook for my dogs as much as I can, but there is the time factor as well. When I get from work, in the evening, somtimes it's just good to have a prepared meal at hand. You just need to make sure the quality is high!

Uh oh, thanks for the heads up on that, Mary!
Dog food companies changing hands is rarely a good thing.

Welcome, and thanks for sharing your information here, Jen. It's always amazing to me when I hear how fast people can see the difference in their dogs when there's a switch to foods that provide the right mix for optimal health!

And since you're an Innova fan, I hope you've read the weekend edition here about P&G buying the Natura company that produces that food.:-I

I agree that the least processing is the best and it looks like some truths about GMOs are unfolding apace with some very ugly results to the rich topsoils of the Midwest. The breadbasket to so many may prove to have a far diminished future because of these crazy GMO crops. That's for another blog to present, but it is symptomatic of the cavalier treatment of our resources, and that includes animals and their feed. As Marion Nestle says, there's only 1 food chain! Oh boy...

Couldn't agree more about all the choices available being confusing and it's why I write about what's happening in foods so people have an opportunity to see it and say "oh, well, maybe I'll take a look at that link and see what's what." But convenience is something that can't be denied. There needs to be more "alternative" food choices on the supermarket shelves so people can actually pick up a bag of good food and compare ingredients. Thanks for stopping by and joining the conversation!
