Separate yourself from the pack! Toss aside the idea that Valentine’s Day is all about the expensive restaurant and fancy chocolates. Dog lovers can do it better by making Valentine’s Day a special day for the whole family, likely enjoying it more while spending less. Who doesn’t appreciate that?
With that thought in mind, I recently heard from a representative for Oprah’s Store in Chicago, asking if I knew there were pet items available there–and I didn’t! (Wow, how did I miss this?) Two free items were sent for review, the monogrammed polo T-shirt and travel bowl, above.
Tashi’s Winter “dog from WhoVille” look aside, the polo shirt was ordered a couple sizes too large so that Lake Shore Animal Shelter can use it for photos, especially of black dogs who always take longer to adopt:)
The shirt is really cute, and has all the features of your own Polo shirt–slits up both sides, a waffle pattern, but in a polyester/cotton blend for easy cleaning. The travel bowl is the same green as the “O” monogram on the shirt, so it’ll look very pulled together at the beach, or on the tailgate when we are all outdoors. It’s something you can keep in your car or in your backpack to be used for water during long car rides as well as hikes. (Lake Shore can use it during adoptathons.)
I took a look at the store’s website. There’s an excellent video tour hosted by Oprah, and I couldn’t believe that I hadn’t heard of or seen this place before. If you’re in town, you can drop by and see everything, and if not you can order nearly 80% of what’s available online.

Poor Tashi…his summer puppy cut officially looks horrid at this point. I was much heartened, however, when I took a look at the dog modeling the pink polo at the Store's website…they all get messy in this snow with the coats and sweaters…sigh, not the debut I had hoped for, Edie, but he's perfectly happy and a natural at striking a pose! Next time maybe we'll see his eyes:-D
Tashi is adorable even if the shirt is oversized. Mary, I've heard that black dogs take longer to adopt. This is so strange to me. I just don't get this. I wonder if the same is true of cats. I had a black and brown dog, and had a black cat.
