Happy Valentine's Day

I have a couple of new things for you in this week’s Weekend Edition, and one of them combines travel, dogs, and a contest

But you’ve got to act fast! The contest closes tomorrow, Jan 25 at 11:59:59 (and they are not kidding)!  But a trip for two to New York for four days is nothing to scoff at, plus you get to attend Chef Michael’s “Be My Doggie Valentine Dinner Party“!  Second prize is $1,000.  Check out contest rules!( Only dogs allowed in the cabin during flights are included for weather and perhaps hotel reasons.)

Even if you don’t care about contests, this one comes with an automatic gifting of $10 to Adopt-a-Pet for each valid entry up to$7500. That’s the easiest most painless way I’ve heard of to do some good for pets for free! Here’s the scoop:

Chef Michael will be throwing the first-ever “Be My Valentine Doggie Dinner Party” in New York City on February 14. Pet lifestyle expert Kimberly Schlegel Whitman will be there with her dog Lola as well as other celebrities, VIPs and their Doggie Valentines of course.

Win a trip to NYC for four days to attend the VIP event by entering the “Be My Doggie Valentine” photo contest: http://www.doggievalentine.com.

Dog owners across the country are invited to enter by submitting a color photo of their dog along with a caption that describes why their dog is their Valentine. Entries will be judged on the “unforgettable face” in the photo, the originality of the caption and the appropriateness of the entry to the contest’s loving theme.

If you want to relax and rejuvenate, Go Pet Friendly  has another find IshoresRoom-300x199 think you’ll want to know about.  It’s outside the hubbub of Daytona in Florida with Ocean and other water views.  But you’ll have to check out the article.  This picture is what knocked me out–made me want to book a flight!

And as for dog lessons, here’s a quote that’s been floating around and is in need of author’s name for attribution. I’m not sure this is the entire piece of not. Do you know who the writer is?

What would our lives be like if we took a page from our dogs? Something to think about:

“Always run to greet loved ones when they come home.

Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joy ride.

Recognize the ecstasy of fresh air and wind in your face.

Take naps.

Stretch before rising.

Run, romp and play daily.

Thrive on attention and let people touch you.

Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.

On warm days, lie on your back in the grass. On hot days, drink lots of water and find the shade.

When you’re happy, dance around and wag your entire body.

Enjoy long walks.

Be loyal.

Never pretend to be something you’re not.

If what you want is buried, dig deep until you find it.

And, when someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently

Hope you’ve had a good weekend!
