Service Dog Killed: Human Error to Blame

The news today from Minnesota is a sad and frankly shocking commentary on competence and the care of a valued member of the Howard Lake police force.

The Howard Lake Police made this statement:

Felony has been with the department since 2002, and has been very visible in the community. He worked the night shift with the night officers, yet routinely searched school campuses and performed for public demonstrations during daytime hours, as well. Felony was often quoted as, “The hardest working officer in Howard Lake,” by the previous police chief during narcotics demonstrations throughout the community.

The police sent notices to shelters and the animal control facility, but included no photo. What I found revealing toward the end of the clip, was that neither the St Paul nor Minneapolis police departments microchip their service dogs.  I’m stunned.

one more thing…

Christie Keith has a post over at Pet Connection on PETA and their support of the irresponsibly high kill rate–77%–at Lucas County, Ohio animal control facility.  Not news to many, but for those who have yet to be presented with this face of PETA, it’s a worthy read.

That's really sad. I can't believe they don't microchip their dogs.
