Michael Vick Gets BET TV Show

by Mary Haight on October 7, 2009

I had to rub my eyes when I saw the headline. What? Are you kidding me…apparently BET thinks Michael Vick is a perfect fit, underscoring their “family values, cultural uplift, community pride” brand. Would you have put that name to those values? I’m not sure even his supporters would go there.

Billed as the “raw storytelling of what happened, why and how” there will be, according to James DuBose, executive producer, a serious tone with a focus on how Vick got into dogfighting. going to the Virginia property where the crimes were committed, and inside Leavenworth, Kansas prison where Vick served 18 months. BET believes Vick’s story to be an object lesson in falling from grace and the struggle to reclaim your reputation.

Loretha Jones, BET’s entertainment chief, said “It’s important for us to capture this important moment to see what someone does when they have the opportunity to rebuild themselves. It might serve as a road map for young men facing the same challenge.”

And Vick himself says, “I just want people to really get to know me as an individual.  What I want to do is change the perception of me. I am a human being. I’ve made some mistakes in the past, and I wish it had never happened. But it’s not about how you fall, but about how you pick yourself up.”

This program will be out early next year.  I assume Vick is getting paid for this.  My question is, is the money going to be donated to shelters or pit bull rescues? To a fund for inner city kids? I haven’t heard…how sorry is he?  You can read Greg Braxton‘s blog at LA Animal Watch for more, and excuse me while I go figure out how Vick gets to be enriched, yet again.
