Requests for food donations turned the heads of local agencies and led to the Humane Society of Cedar Creek Lake, the  HSUS, and local law enforcement to raid and bust what is a suspected puppy mill in Kaufman, Texas, 45 miles outside Dallas.

Mostly small breed dogs were found in deplorable conditions. Chihuahuas, Poodles and others living in their own waste, severely matted, with open festering sores were examined and given much needed medical attention.  The owner’s have not yet been charged or arrested, although animal cruelty charges seem inevitable.

72-year-old Margaret Boyd owns the property that the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office raided, and owns “Peggy’s Perfect Pets” in Mesquite, Texas.” Boyd says that she was only trying to love and care for the animals removed from her property near Prairieville, Texas.” according to Sherri Thornhill, Kaufman County’s Crime Examiner.  Boyd maintains no wrongdoing.

As if in refute to those words, on the day the animals were taken from Boyd, three of the dogs died from disease and malnutrition. Animal condition will be documented in the vet’s report.

Joely, don't open your mouth and question any we did in the rescue of sweet dogs. We worked from sun up to sun down to get them the love, medical care, cleaning and attention they NEVER got under her care. It's been nearly a year and still cry every time I think of the dogs, puppies, cats and even the goat with severe mastitis. Texas heat didn't do that, she did. The cases of abuse were so bad one of the county sheriffs had to look away from the video that was shown in court to the judge. If a sheriff has to look away that speak VOLUMES! She should be made to live out the rest of her life in a wire cage with no food, water, medical attention and in her own urine, feces. And if you think she was so right and we were so wrong, you should live in a wire cage right next to her. If you aren't part of the solution you are part of the problem! CLOSE YOUR PIE HOLE!!!!

I had the privilege of working with the rescue operation for several days. The people who worked with this rescue are among the finest human beings I have ever met. I am honored to have worked among them. If anything positive can be taken from this, it is that there are truly decent individuals who care and aren't afraid to work hard and get dirty. And to those individuals, may you be at peace knowing that somewhere there is a dog being cuddled, loved and nurtured because of your efforts. Because of your efforts, there is an individual who was distraught but now has a four-legged angel to bring infinite joy to an otherwise dismal existence. And to HSUS, Kudos to you for being on the ball. We had adequate supplies throughout this operation. You could teach FEMA a few lessons.

BTW now that the judge has ruled that Boyd must relinquish the animals, they are being delivered to rescues and fosters, to have a cage-free future where they are LOVED.

This conversation has been enlightening for all who read it. All of you who are volunteering and helping these poor abused animals are the greatest. I know how emotionally draining this work is, and how mad you can get with people who try to defend the indefensible, but threatening violence is not an okay response. I'd rather not edit people's comments. Harry and Joely can be told what the truth of the situation is and they can choose to accept that, check it out for themselves, or not. Some people will never believe these kennels are cruel and abusive, even with photos. Others get it, and maybe down the road these 2 will also.

Now at least they are all clean, fed, rehydrated and comfortable. They are not "packed" into crates. If there are more than 3 dogs per cage then they're 2 and 3lb puppies. Remember these aren't labs we're talking about. These are chihuahuas and yorkies and small breed dogs. If you're concerned about their conditions then go ahead and drive your ass over their and help. I saw a dog today with no bottom jaw, another with a mammory tumor the size of a grapefruit, another with a dislocated hip. That's a FEW of the horrible things I saw, TODAY, out of 600 animals! Hey and Joely you know that tag on the hairdryer that says keep away from water...you can ignore that. p.s. hi jroc...or should i call you white lightening abbott :)

Joely I want to punch you in your dumbshit face. The Texas heat did not kill those dogs. I've been there for the past 3 days so believe me when I say... Disease, starvation, lack of food and previous medical attention are what killed those puppies. First of all they're not sitting out in the Texas sun, baking. They are in a shaded barn with doors open and about 30 commercial size fans blowing along with about 200 small ones. They're getting heartworm test, vaccinated, flea and heartworm prevention and the medical attention they so desperately needed. When they were taken from that dumb bitches home they were covered in fleas and their own urine and feces.

My wife just returned from the mill today working with a local rescue group. The situation is STILL deplorable. They're shaving off, basically, whole pelts of fur that have to be held as evidence. There are still close to 100 still pregnant moms that are in the process of giving birth. So to the 600 animals already caged there, there are 3 to 12 times 100 puppies on the way. Do the math, Joely. They had 12 dogs/puppies die today alone. Care to wash my wife's clothes after handling sick dog after sick dog, Joely?

Ok Joely first of all you are about a dumb ass. Don't even freaking judge unless you know the whole story. The TEXAS HEAT did not kill these dogs. The shit ass owners that did not take care of them killed the dogs. You need to march your ass over there and volunteer and you will understand why these dogs died. You are about about a dumb ass.

Have you seen the living conditions of the dogs since they were 'rescued'? They are packed into crates without airconditioning! Before they were in large grassy runs with access to inside with airconditioning. I question the raiders not working with the woman, her husband and helpers to keep the dogs in the large kennels with airconditioning while finding the dogs homes. Could the Texas heat be why 3 dogs died?

So...if any of the animals taken were put down, is that an improvement for the animal itself?

Mary, thanks for your comment on my article about the Kaufman County Puppy Mill. You have a nice blog here and I appreciate you looking out for the doggies in the world! If I get any stories on more puppy mills in Kaufman County, I'll be all over it! Sherri Thornhill- Kaufman County Crime Examiner
