Toronto, Ontario It’s known at shelters that rescued animals are most grateful for their second chance, and show it, but it’s not often their loyalty is showcased in such a dramatic event. Chow Chow Jarod stepped in to rescue his adopted sister Meesha and their human Mom, Donna Perreault, from a Black Bear attack.
Perreault had thrown a bucket at the bear in an attempt to keep it from mauling her older dog Meesha. As the bear took a swipe at Perreault, Jarod jumped on its back and started chomping, which was enough to distract the bear and allow Perreault and Meesha to get inside the house. Jarod was chased around the garage by the bear, but made it to safety with only a puncture mark on his back. What a great dog story!
Jarod was one of four newly inducted pets to the Purina Animal Hall of Fame, an annual event honoring animals who perform heroic events.
Now if that doesn’t make you want to run out and adopt your next furry friend–maybe you don’t see a bear attack possibility in your future–read the other stories of two dogs and a cat who saved the lives of human family members(link above).
